Diabetes Awareness for Hikers

By November 19, 2012

Follow me on:

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, I'd like to take the chance to highlight people that don't let diabetes slow them down on their backcountry adventures. Professional snowboarder Sean Busby sure knows his way around a hiking trail, and just happens to have Type 1 diabetes. He was kind enough to share what it's like to be a professional backcountry athlete with diabetes, plus some of his tricks for keeping your diabetes under control when traveling in remote areas, in a recent interview.

Tell Me More About Diabetes

I'm not an expert on diabetes, but fortunately our guides to Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes are. They've provided an overview of the various types of diabetes, plus information about the signs and symptoms of Type 1 diabetes and early Type 2 diabetes to help you get oriented.

You can also get a refresher on why exercise is so good for people with diabetes. After all, that's what hiking is -- exercise, only better!
