That really is me in the shower, checking to see if my trusty hard-shell jacket is still properly waterproof. Of course no breathable shell (like the one I'm wearing) is actually 100-percent waterproof, and the force of water from a shower doesn't compare to, say, the force of wind-driven rain.
Still, trying this aging jacket out in the shower is a lot more pleasant than waiting until a heavy downpour, when I'm miles from nowhere, to find out whether or not it can still keep me dry. The verdict: Good thing I checked; those thumbs should be pointing down, not up. Big Blue is losing structural integrity -- time to find a replacement.
